Fred Jala finds inspiration in the interaction between urban and wild, insights gained over a lifetime in the Pacific Northwest. He draws upon years of experience to create memorable places, from small urban gardens to multi-acre campuses. Fred enjoys being deeply involved in his projects, from pre-design programming with the client, conceptual design, construction documentation and ensuring the quality of the construction in the field. His experience as a team member and project manager on many complex projects taught him the importance of communication and collaboration among the design team, client, and contractor. Fred earned his Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington and is a licensed Landscape Architect.
Fred shares his passion for design and landscape architecture with the community, having served as a mentor of high school students for the ACE Mentor program and as a professional mentor and guest studio critic for the University of Washington. When not at the office, he can be found trying to keep up with the younger players on the soccer pitch or seeking the perfect macaroni and cheese recipe.
