Montgomery county justice center

The historic Park in Norristown, PA will be expanded to its original footprint and made more accessible during the Montgomery County Justice Center campus expansion project. The site will provide a stronger civic presence along Main Street and serve as a catalyst for the burgeoning redevelopment of this former mill town in southeast Pennsylvania.

GGN’s design proposes one legible campus identity that celebrates the regional context of Norristown. The campus’s programming aims to highlight the civic presence of both the existing historic courthouse and proposed Justice Center, and create an accessible and connected park for all users that connects to downtown.

The proposed design articulates the local history and ecological context of the nearby Schuykill River in the park’s materiality. These design elements include universal passage through a sloped native woodland meadow, a formalized memorial plaza, courthouse atrium, and a series of lawns that allow for increased accessibility, gathering, and public events.
