Brown University Engineering Research Center (ERC)

Brown University engineering research center

Brown University’s new Engineering Research Center (ERC) expansion provides additional spaces for a growing program within the Engineering Block, which is located two blocks east of the original historic campus. ERC’s Central Lawn strengthens the shared identity and connections between the new and original campus blocks by providing a “book-end” composition with historic Simmons Quad. A clear spatial and material composition results in a cohesive design that successfully integrates the project into the campus, while at the same time enhancing the clarity and legibility of the central axis.

Well-integrated building programs and outdoor spaces compliment Brown’s spirit of collaborative and cross-disciplinary inquiry and facilitate colloquial gatherings.

The Engineering Research Center is Brown University’s first Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) project, which also reflects the school’s strong value in a collaborative approach.
