GGN + AWA Team Wins Vancouver Community Connector Competition

October 19 , 2009 - The Gustafson Guthrie Nichol + Allied Works Architecture Team was selected this morning as the winner of the Vancouver Community Connector Competition. Other members of the winning team include Arup and public artist Beliz Brother. The Vancouver Community Connector will be a new lid park over I-5 which will reconnect historic Fort Vancouver and the downtown core of Vancouver, WA.

Shannon Nichol Lecturing in Edmonton

October 12 , 2009 - Shannon Nichol will be presenting the work of GGN at a lecture Thursday evening in Edmonton, AB. The lecture is presented by M.A.D.E. in Edmonton, as part of the Not Architecture Lecture Series, in partnership with Edmonton on the Edge and the Edmonton Design Committee. While in Edmonton, Shannon will also be a juror for the Urban Design Awards and speaking on a sustainability panel at the University of Alberta.

This year's theme is Improv/Improve celebrating celebrate the agility, inventiveness and foresight architects bring to their work in this era of change – improvising and reacting quickly to new constraints, and going above and beyond to improve the built environment. Jurors for this year’s awards include; Nigel Dancey, RIBA Foster + Partners, London, Mark Rios, FAIA, FASLA, Rios Clementi Hale, Los Angeles, and Teddy Cruz, eStudio Cruz, San Diego. Gustafson Guthrie Nichol in the Spotlight at ASLA's 2009 Annual Meeting in Chicago

September 18, 2009 - Gustafson Guthrie Nichol partner Shannon Nichol and associate David Nelson gave a walking tour of the Lurie Garden during the ASLA Annual Meeting. They were joined by Colleen Lockovitch, the Lurie Garden Horticulturalist, and Roy Diblik of Northwind Perennial Farm. Together this team spoke about the Lurie Garden design, construction, plant procurement, maintenance, and programming. Also representing GGN at the annual meeting were Emily Pizzuto who sat on the Landscape Architecture Magazine advertising awards jury, and Rodrigo Abela who participated in a panel discussion about designing landscapes for cultural institutions. GGN was also honored to be Landscape Forms' Guest of Honor a the Landscape Architecture Foundation Millennium Magic Gala on the stage of the Pritzker Pavillion.

Gustafson Guthrie Nichol with Freelon Adjaye Bond Wins Competition for new Smithsonian African American Museum

April 14, 2009 - It was announced today that the Freelon Adjaye Bond team, including Gustafson Guthrie Nichol has won the design competition for the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. The new museum will be sited on the Washington Mall just east of the Washington Monument. This will be the last building built on the Mall. Read the Washington Post article here
